No Adobe Acrobat Reader for Solaris X86
As I am testdriving an x2100-m2 (1 cpu, 2GB RAM) with the sunray server software to see how good it runs compared with the E4500 (8 cpu’s, 8GB RAM) I ran into a major problem. Adobe only has a Solaris Sparc version of there Acrobat Reader program, there is NO x86 version availlable.
I would like to request everyone who would like to see Acrobat Reader for Solaris X86 to leave a not at the feature request form from adobe.
ps. the performance of the x2100-M2 with the sunray server software is amazing so far. It would save as huge electricity costs and gain a lot of performance.

Thanks for the URL however, that is version 4.05 which was the last version developed by Adobe for Solaris X86. Its actually 8 years old (released in 2000) so if it runs on Solaris 5.10 is not garanteed.
Also Adobe seem to have forgotten about that version according to:

Transitive has developed a solution for this problem, by creating a freely downloadable version of Adobe Reader for Solaris/x86 users. The product combines the latest Solaris/SPARC version of Adobe Reader 8.1.2 with Transitive’s QuickTransit technology, which allows SPARC applications to run on x86-based systems. The new QuickTransit Adobe Reader can be downloaded from:
http://www.transitive.com/reader
This solution, which has been endorsed by Adobe, will be made available free of charge until Adobe ships a natively-compiled version of Adobe Reader 9 for Solaris/x86 some time in 2009. More information can be found here:
http://www.transitive.com/news/press_full/145
QuickTransit Adobe Reader is a single downloadable file and its functionality and user experience is identical to a natively-compiled version of Adobe Reader. Transitive welcomes feedback from Solaris/x86 users on this new PDF viewing solution.

Acrobat Reader 8 is available NOW on Solaris x86 through a free SPARC emulator, all packaged together. See my blog entry for details:

Or you can wait for Acrobat 10 reader for Solaris x86 that’s supposed to arrive in 2009.
